This elegant pair of black chairs with hand caned seats came to me in awful shape.  The finish was dried out, the dowels holding the crest rail were either loose or broken, and all the other stretchers and rails were un-glued and loose.  The seats were also blown out.  They'd been sitting on the side of the road for a few rainy days as well. 

 

I repaired the broken dowel pretty quickly, but then everything needed to be sanded and re-glued before they could be painted.

Once the new paint was on, I could set to work installing the new seats. I couldn't be happier with the outcome!  The end result is a pair of elegant black beauties which would be at home in numerous decor styles.
